Nature Center Holiday Events

CAPE MAY – This Fri. is First Friday ... and New Jersey Audubon’s Nature Center is featuring reasonably priced original art work, a holiday & garland workshop, “One Stop Shopping” at the Center’s gift shop, and a campfire!
For the past month, The Harbor Gallery has featured a Holiday Artists Marketplace. This very special exhibit runs through December. All artwork is original and is priced under $50 and presents the work of local photographers, painters, potters, printmakers, jewelers and mosaic artists and features the talents of Janet Payne, Tina Giaimo, Lee Hajduk, Pam Huber, Susan Ross, Lynda Fellenbaum, Anita Roth, Laura McPherson, Glenn Fellenbaum and Janet McShaine. The public is invited to meet the artists at a reception scheduled to coincide with the Center’s First Friday celebration beginning at 6:00.
Holiday Wreath & Garland Workshops are always a popular events and this year will be no exception. Use fresh evergreens of Douglas fir, spruce, pine, cedar and other natural materials to create handcrafted wreaths and garlands for family and friends. The process is easy to learn and the Center’s staff will ensure that even beginners go home with impressive one-of-a-kind creations. Cost per workshop is $15 for members and $20 for non-members; all material and supplies are furnished. Call ahead and register then come out at 5:30 this Friday, 11/30.
The Center’s Gift Shop is your perfect “One-Stop-Shopping” destination for all things local and nature. That bird lover on your list will appreciate a winter supply of Aspen Song seed or New Jersey’s homegrown S.A.V.E. black oil sunflower seed, suet or maybe even a new feeder. The Gift Shop also carries Dr. Desai Soap, made with all natural ingredients, stocking stuffers and a great selection of kids’ books and stuffed animals. Discounts based on Audubon membership may apply.
Also this Fri., the Holiday Campfire beginning about 6:00. There is no more meaningful gift than your time, attention and companionship. Come out to our Holiday Campfire this Friday, November 30th and share a bit of yourself with family and friends, and make some new friends in the process. Dress warm for the chilly night and bring your own beach chair; join us as we sit around an old-fashioned campfire roasting marshmallows, swapping yarns and listening to the night sounds. Cost per person is $5.
The Nature Center of Cape May (NCCM) is situated on the rim of Cape May Harbor at 1600 Delaware Avenue in Cape May. One of 10 centers operated by New Jersey Audubon, the Center provides family oriented programming in the marine sciences on a year-round basis. The public is invited to visit our campus, shop at the nature store and view the breathtaking harbor and its environment from the Trucksess Observation tower.

The Mid-Atlantic Center for the Arts & Humanities ("MAC") is hosting an auction to benefit the MAC's education programs. You can view the auction items HERE.  Many great items available, including lunch for ten at Harpoon Henry's, which gives me an excuse to post the above photo.  Check it out! A great cause and great stuff.

Happy Thanksgiving from Your Cape May Blogger!

I want to thank all my regular and not-so-regular visitors over the last three-plus years! I have really enjoyed blogging about Cape May and am thrilled that so many people find the blog worthy of visiting.

Cape May Sunrise
This year, I am of course most thankful for my wife and four beautiful children. But I am also thankful that a few days ago I found out that I had passed the New Jersey Bar Exam.  For those of you who don't know, I write about Cape May but actually practice law in Florida.  I started the blog because I found myself surfing the web for news about Cape May every day and I figured others were doing the same thing -- and I think I was right about that.  Keeping up with the blog introduced me to many Cape May locals and non-locals alike, and I realized that I wanted more Cape May in my life than just a blog. So, last summer I took the NJ Bar Exam in the hopes that I could open a practice in Cape May (or nearby) while maintaining my office in South Florida.  Now that I have passed the exam, it is time to open an office in CM.  I can't wait! I may write more about my practice on this blog, or I may keep my professional life separate from this hobby that I started three years ago. Not sure about that. But in the meantime:

Happy Thanksgiving!

Sandy damages Higbee Beach

Yes it's been a week since I last updated. Work intruded on fun.  Anyway, here's an update from CapeMayTimes.Com about what Sandy did to our beloved Higbee beach.  Read it HERE.  They have posted photos, too.

A Great Time 4 Cape May - Breathing a sigh of relief

Dune is Gone! Great 4 the Cove Restaurant!
Sorry I haven't updated in the last several days... once it was clear that Cape May came through relatively unscathed (albeit with a great deal of sand deposited in East Cape May, and concern for the damages at both McGlade's and Higher Grounds Coffee), I had to focus on work of all things...

Anyway, here are some post-Sandy photos for you. These are published here and there all over the web.

Reed's Beach needs Help after Hurricane Sandy

I have featured Reed's Beach, a very small town on the bayside maybe 10 or 15 minutes from Cape May, at least once or twice previously.  Anyway, Reed's Beach took the devastation that we expected in Cape May and that was received up at northern shore points.  Please look at this article in the CapeMayCountyHerald.Com and if you can offer help, do it.
