Governor Christie addressed the nation and gave a shout out to the Jersey Shore. Meanwhile, there was a bomb scare -- yup, a bomb scare -- at the Marquis de Lafayette. Never a dull moment, even as the summer winds down...

The Cape May Chamber of Commerce ends this year's Movie Night on the Beach series with a summer classic from 1984: Ghostbusters. Check it out this Thursday night on Stockton Beach by Convention Hall. Anyone who remembers summers in the '80s in Cape May knows that each summer a movie and a song dominated the landscape in a way that movies and songs don't really achieve anymore. In 1984, there is no question that Ghostbusters was that movie, although I suppose Purple Rain was a close second. Ray Parker, Jr.'s theme song was one of the songs of that summer (as was Prince's When Doves Cry, but again I'd put that a close second). Of course, if we're talking Jersey and talking 1984, Bruce Springsteen's blockbuster Born in the USA album also dominated the music scene, with Dancing in the Dark being his big hit that summer.
Perhaps Ghostbusters seems bigger than those other songs (and movie) to me in part because I was young (13) at the time, and Ghostbusters made more of an impression. But anyway, I think it's a great pick for the final summer movie of the Movie Night on the Beach series for 2012.

|A bit of a crooked shot of Cove Beach. By me.|
So earlier this month Coastal Living Magazine named The Cove Beach one its 21 best beaches in the country. NICE! Here's the blurb describing Cove Beach and here's the entire list of beaches they selected for inclusion.

Cape May Point State Park hosts a Pledge to Fledge Event this Thursday from 3pm to 6pm. "Pledge to Fledge" encourages people to take up bird watching. The Park will allow children free admission to the Lighthouse, and birders will show off raptors for the children, along with other activities.

A fire broke out at Wallace's Cafe in the harbor area on Saturday evening. Thankfully, no one was hurt. And although I'm a bit early, I figured I'd remind everyone that the annual Ugly Mug Froth Blowing Contest is coming soon. Last year I believe it had to be rescheduled b/c of Hurricane Irene. This year they've pushed it back to September 9th. The news gives me the chance to feature the Mug in my Sign of the Day series. Have a great Monday!

I wonder if the name Clinton will ever be separated from the blue dress. I doubt it.

Tomorrow thru Saturday at Grant Street Beach and the surrounding area, you can find the USLA's National Lifeguard Championships. This should be a great deal of fun to watch. If you're in town, expect traffic!

I can't recall ever eating at Cappeletti's but certainly the sign makes me feel like I'm on the CM boardwalk, and that's a good thing!
And at 8pm tonight on the boardwalk the big event is "Ricky Nelson Remembered," a tribute to Ricky Nelson taking place at the new Convention Hall as part of the Stockton Goes to the Beach summer concert series. Tickets are only $30 and the event stars Ricky's two children, Matthew & Gunnar Nelson, who formed the rock group "Nelson" oh so many years ago. Now they do a tribute show to their dad, and I'm sure the show will be fun.

Today is the 80th Annual Baby Parade, led by Miss New Jersey and Cape May's illustrious Mayor Mahaney. You don't want to miss what I'm sure will be an adorable sight! Parade starts at 11am and I believe it runs from Congress Hall to Convention Hall, if I recall correctly.

Last week I was lucky enough to watch Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring with several other Hobbit-fans in the most serene place -- the beach in Cape May. It was a beautiful night with a nice breeze, and watching a movie in that setting was nearly Heaven on Earth. If you're in town today, I highly recommend heading to the beach by Convention Hall (in front of The Inn of Cape May, more or less) and checking out Field of Dreams. A great movie, a great city, a great beach. I'm sure it will be a great time. Show will start at about 8:30pm.

Well, I tried to change the look of the blog but I didn't like it much so other than the top photograph I guess it will stay the same. BUT... let me point out a few changes that are not so obvious as the look. One, I have linked to a new Cape May-related website called CapeMayResort.Com run by Ryan Reclaim. Ryan has quickly created a very nice Cape May-related site and he also tweets a daily run-down of the news; you can find that news link by following Ryan on Twitter right HERE. Ryan's resort site is in my links to the right.
Also, I have finally updated the webcam links that had been broken for quite a while. You will find a link to the Cove webcam right here and also over in the links section of this page and you can look here to see the webcam that looks out at the beach from the top of Cabanas Bar. That link is also permanently on the right side of the page with the other Cape May links.
Have a great day, everyone!
